Small and Medium Businesses Can Enhance Mobility and Turn Their Apple Macintosh Platforms into Telephones
PORTSMOUTH, NH, November 5, 2007—Whaleback Systems™ today introduced an OS X version of its Executive IP Softphone that runs on Apple Macintosh computers. It complements Whaleback’s existing Windows Executive IP Softphone, allowing Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) to benefit from greater mobility.

Whaleback Executive IP Softphones integrate IP telephony onto personal computers so users can increase productivity, avoid desktop clutter and benefit from access to full-featured telephony from wherever they have a broadband connection. The OS X Executive IP Softphone is a multimedia application that allows users to make broadband calls directly from Macintosh PCs and laptops. It appears onscreen as an image of a telephone, and it provides easy access to the same IP telephony features available on Whaleback Executive IP Handsets.
Eclipse Product Development is a Whaleback customer that has been using the Windows Executive IP Softphone. “When we heard that Whaleback would also be offering a Mac-based softphone we were excited,” said Michelle T. Clancy, Office Manager for Eclipse. “We rely on both Windows and Macintosh computers, and we ordered two Mac softphones. I’ll be using mine on a G5 tower to make and receive office phone calls at home, and our CEO will use it on his Apple laptop so he can make calls, establish audio conferences and receive calls while he’s on the road. And we plan to further deploy both Windows and Mac Whaleback soft phones in the future so employees can have greater mobility.”
Both Macintosh and Windows softphones are provided by Whaleback Technology Partner CounterPath Solutions. Executive IP Softphones are now available to support Windows and Mac platforms for customers of Whaleback’s CrystalBlue Voice Service. Each Executive IP Softphone is available to Whaleback customers for $49.95 a month.
