OrcaSentry

OrcaSentry is an innovative voice application firewall and SIP Session Border Controller that locks down the voice network from security threats such as Spam over Internet Telephony (SPIT) and Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. It is a dedicated, voice-only proxy firewall built into Whaleback’s SMB 1500, CrystalBlue Voice service’s managed IP-PBX appliance. It neutralizes evolving spam and network intrusion threats by terminating and regenerating all inbound voice traffic, preventing packet forwarding and public SIP call addressing.

For each phone call, a session is established from the customer’s handset to the IP-PBX where the private IP address is translated and a new session is established directly to a secure Whaleback co-location facility. This eliminates peer-to-peer dialing with a non-secure IP end-point, witheverything locked down and managed from the IP phone to its eventual hand-off to the PSTN.

OrcaSentry is the cornerstone of Whaleback's VoIP security solutions, and Whaleback further enhances voice security via dynamic path control features available in our OrcaVision Voice Quality Management System. In addition, Whaleback's high availability server—OrcaServer HA—is a new premises-based hardware appliance that can be optionally configured to add high-availability capabilities such as cold standby and fault tolerance (RAID storage and redundant power) to the SMB 1500.The premises-based managed service architecture of the CrystalBlue Voice Service makes it easy to add new security capabilities and functions to address new security threats as they evolve, and updates are automatically distributed to existing Whaleback customers.
